Ganser – Futuretripping
There’s a man in this song selling umbrellas under a clear sky. This is basically the whole thesis of “Futuretripping” the new single from Chicago’s Ganser, led by Alicia Gaines and Brian Cundiff. The single comes with Mad Men-style cover art and a video directed by Gaines. It follows last year’s “Animal Hospital,” the band’s third full-length, which pushed into new sonic ground without losing the post-punk and art-rock identity they’ve built their name on.
“Futuretripping” feels more like a callback, closer to older material like “Odd Talk” than to where “Animal Hospital” took them. The bass carries most of the weight, with small flickers of sound filling in around it. It’s a song about collective paralysis dressed up as reassurance.
